Cellulosic cell wall, three dimensional and inside the cell
Project Description
Cellulosic cell walls are deposited by cellulose synthesizing cellulosomes in the primary and secondary cell wall of higher plants. Thecate Dinoflagellates are well known in their ability to produce intricate cellulose crystalline plates. These thecal plates are intracellular and three-dimensional in well-defined shapes, contrast with extracellular and two-dimensional nature of plant cell wall. Dinoflagellate cell wall is composed of two layers, the cellulosic thecal plates and pellicular layer. The current project aims to study the dynamics of the two layers, and its relation with cell growth.
