Experimental testing and material characterization of bamboo structural members
Project Description
There is a growing interest in bamboo as a construction material. As a cost-effective and eco-friendly material, bamboo is directly relevant to six of the seventeen United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It can address the need for safe and affordable housing, alleviate rural poverty, and at the same time help reduce carbon emissions. This project seeks to perform simple compressive strength tests on bamboo members to gain an insight into their material behavior. The laboratory work will impart firsthand experience on working with bamboo, and knowledge on testing methods universally used in the field of Civil Engineering.
