Field survey of the ecological and physiological status of Hong Kong's seagrass beds
Project Description
We will do field survey of three seagrass sites around Hong Kong every two months. The objective of this study is to study the status of Hong Kong's seagrass ecosystems, their carbon storage capacity, and how environmental condition affect the health of such blue carbon systems.

Applicant's Roles
The UROP students will help to take samples, pretreatment of samples, and some simple laboratory analysis.
Applicant's Learning Objectives
The students will learn about marine ecology, especially the importance of the coastal wetland (in this case the seagrass beds) in carbon and nitrogen cycles and their ability to absorb and store carbon, hence contribute to our carbon neutrality goal.
