G protein-coupled receptors in cell signaling
Project Description
The superfamily of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) constitute the largest cell-surface detectors for hormones, neurotransmitters, photons, and numerous other extracellular signals. In order to thoroughly understand how the GPCRs regulate cellular functions, specific combinations of receptors and G protein subunits will be expressed in mammalian cell lines, and their effects on downstream effectors assessed by measuring the activities of selected enzymes, kinases, and ion channels.
