Stablecoin in Hong Kong
Project Description
This project examines how Hong Kong’s emerging stablecoin framework and how it supports four priority use cases: tokenized asset settlement (DvP for funds/bonds), corporate/treasury applications (working capital, yield, liquidity management), Web3-native uses (DeFi liquidity, on-chain marketplaces, gaming), and cross-border trade settlement.

Conduct a literature review of research on stablecoin; benchmarks HKMA/SFC requirements (licensing scope, reserve composition, disclosure cadence, redemption rights, segregation/custody, AML/Travel Rule) against Singapore’s MAS, Japan’s JFSA, the EU’s MiCA, and the USA’s GENIUS Act; analyze the suitability and potential of various use cases; provide policy recommendations to enable safe, and high-utility stablecoin adoption in Hong Kong.
